15th International Social Innovation Research Conference in Guimarães, Portugal

On September 6th-8th, 2023, the 15th International Social Innovation Research Conference (ISIRC) was held in Guimarães, Portugal, where both Artur Serra, Deputy Director of i2Cat Foundation and Toñi Caro, co-ordinator of the INTEGER project, participated. This conference was entitled “Enhancing the multidisciplinarity of social innovation: bringing together the social sciences, engineering and technology” and aimed to unite academics and practitioners across various disciplines interested in social innovation and entrepreneurship. Hosted by the ALGORITMI Research Centre and the Research Centre on Education at the University of Minho, this conference also offered vibrant discussions, knowledge exchange and exploration of social innovation research.

The research paper “Collaboratories: Building Universal Innovation Ecosystems for an Era of Transitions” was also presented during the conference, which discusses the development of the collaboratori programme in Catalonia as a model for testing the theory of universal innovation ecosystems. This paper advocates for a democratisation of the process, aiming for a broader distribution of social benefits through negotiated approaches focused on the solution of common challenges in pursuit of the common good and the establishment of a universal innovation system.

Moreover, the INTEGER 4H Comprehensive Innovation Model was highlighted with international peers, showing the potential of scaling up and replicability available for widespread use, thus linking the local and regional levels to address the triple transition (social, green and digital).
